A Not So Top Chef

Have you read this scathing review of Guy Fieri's new Times Square restaurant written by a New York Times food critic? He raked the restaurant over the coals but it's hilarious how he did it.

Here are a couple of snippets: Were you struck by how very far from awesome the Awesome Pretzel Chicken Tenders are? When you hung that sign by the entrance that says, WELCOME TO FLAVOR TOWN!, were you just messing with our heads?" "Why did the toasted marshmallow taste like fish?" That is just a taste of the review.

Guy went on The Today Show to combat the negative publicity. Instead of apologizing, he went on the offensive saying the reviewer was trying to make a name for himself by going after Guy. Well according to EW.com the reviewer actually based his review on 4 visits and Guy's restaurant has 2 1/2 star rating on Yelp and 35% positive on Urban Spoon so there's more then one unhappy customer out there. I tried to post the video here but the Today show has weird codes but you can see his response on the EW link.

Can you believe Guy is the 10 highest paid chef in the US? That's crazy! I love his show Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives but 10th highest paid chef? Wowza! Guy also basically used being open 2 months as an excuse, and said come see them in 6 months. What about those people who are eating there right now? Shouldn't they expect a high  quality meal also?

I love celebrity chefs and going to their restaurants but if they're going to put their name on it, it better be pretty damn good! Actually, I have that expectation of any restaurant I'm going to spend my money at. But some of my favorite meals have been in restaurants owned by Tom Colicchio, Emeril and Wolfgang Puck.

Did you read the review? What did you think of it? Guy's response? I'm not going to lie, I'm titillated by the whole thing.
