Talking Books

It's a fact that once I started working for an author I stopped reading as much. I used to read before I went to bed but now my computer is glued to my lap and I surf before bed or play Bejeweled Blitz while I watch tv. I don't read. Unless it's by one of my favorite authors, then I'll drop everything to devour the book.

I'm very much a book snob, I won't buy a book by it's cover, I have a kindle, I rarely buy printed books. But for me to pick up a book by an author I haven't read before I need recommendations, a lot of them. There has to be a buzz about the author before I will pick them up. I want to know ahead of time I'm getting a great book. My reading time is precious.
I love finding a book that keeps me from doing anything else. I literally resent the time I have to take away from the book to go to the bathroom. I debate with myself, should I put the book down and run to the bathroom and back (or my version of running) or take it with me just for those precious extra couple of minutes of reading.

When I worked a 9 to 5 job there were nights I've been so caught up in my book I stay up all night reading. I know I will pay the price in the morning but it doesn't matter, I've been taken away to a different world and will show up to work exhausted but oh so satiated.

The last new to me author who's work I devoured was Ilona Andrews. Did you know they were a husband and wife writing team? They had 5 books out and I read them in 5 days. I absolutely loved their Kate Daniels series and recommend them to everyone who is looking for a new read.

The last book that kept me up all night was ICED by Karen Marie Moning. I received it just as I was heading out to meet my sister. We were going to my nephew's football game but she invited me to come over earlier. I hid ICED (didn't want my roommates to jump all over it) and reluctantly went out the door. I ended up spending the day at her house, I need my baby time after all and then went home in the evening. I know I shouldn't pick up a book by Karen and expect to be able to put it down but I couldn't help myself. I had to start reading and once I started I couldn't stop. I didn't get to sleep until 6am. I was exhausted but I was also on a book high! Who needs marijuana (they just legalized it here in WA) when you have a great book to read?

I'd love to hear you talk about who your last author was that you discovered and loved and what book did you last devour?
